Ghost Trees of Pakistan
As an unexpected side-effect of Pakistan's 2010 flood disaster, in some regions, millions of spiders climbed up into the trees to escape
the rising flood waters. Due to the scale of such flooding and the
fact that the water took so long to recede, many trees became cocooned
in spiders’ webs.
This positive feedback system engineered by the nature had a profound effect: most, if not all. of the mosquitoes were caught in the spiders’ webs reducing the risk of malaria, which was a blessing for the people of Sindh who were already facing so many hardships of the floods.
